Opening up opportunities for on-the-go investment through a native mobile experience
Context
- The retail investor product team has discovered unmet user needs for easy on-the-go investing and portfolio management.
- The existing web experience has usability issues, particularly on mobile devices.
- I was brought in to lead the design of the mobile user experience, as the current product team had only focused on the web version.
My Role
Lead Designer
I worked with and oversaw two other UX/UI designers. My responsibilities included obtaining buy-in from the brand team, establishing the overall design direction, and ensuring the quality of the final product.
Challenges
- Majority of the internal team was inexperienced in mobile app development.
- A 3rd party development company was brought in to implement designs, resulting in a mostly waterfall hand-off process.
- Lending Club has just re-branded so there were little creative direction or documentation to follow.
Approach & Outcomes
- Led 2-week design sprints with stakeholders, which included ideations, design reviews, and hand-offs.
- Created mobile design system using mobile UX best practices and close collaboration with Brand, including motion design, iconography and illustrations.
- Designed a native (iOS and Android) mobile experience from the ground up.
